Trump drops the hammer! Maine is finding out the hard way that defying the President comes with a hefty price tag. Federal funding for the Pine Tree State is on ice after Governor Janet Mills and her administration refused to follow President Trump’s executive order keeping biological men out of girls’ sports.
Remember Title IX? It was supposed to protect female athletes. Trump’s order, “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” simply backs that up. But Maine officials, citing their own state laws that prioritize “gender identity,” decided they knew better.

Now, the USDA is hitting the pause button on cash for Maine school programs. USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins laid it out plain: no compliance, no cash. Maine needs to prove it will actually protect girls from having to compete against boys if it wants the federal dollars flowing again.
It’s not just the USDA, either. HHS and other agencies are poking around, investigating if Maine is really following federal law. They even started looking into the University of Maine System before backing off temporarily.
Governor Mills is digging in her heels, practically daring the administration with a “We’ll see you in court” remark. Bold words, considering millions in federal funds are on the line, not to mention potential action from the Justice Department.
Even folks in Maine are getting worried. State Rep. Laurel Libby slammed local Democrats for putting politics ahead of students and federal law.
This isn’t just a Maine problem; it’s a national fight over common sense. While Maine pushes radical gender ideology, the Trump administration is standing up for fairness in women’s sports. Legal battles are likely brewing, but for now, Maine is learning a costly lesson about ignoring federal directives.
