A college kid allegedly thought torching Teslas was a good way to spend spring break, but now he’s facing hard federal time. Owen McIntire, 19, was nabbed in Massachusetts for supposedly firebombing two pricey Cybertrucks at a Kansas City dealership back in March.

Authorities say McIntire used Molotov cocktails to set the blaze, which started with one truck before spreading to another. A quick-thinking cop spotted the fire near midnight and tried to douse it, but firefighters had to be called in to finish the job, even using special blankets to stop the electric vehicles from reigniting.
Investigators didn’t have to look far. Court docs show McIntire’s own cellphone GPS, social media posts, and flight records allegedly placed him right in Kansas City during the attack. He now faces serious charges like malicious damage to property and possessing an unregistered destructive device.
This fiery stunt wasn’t an isolated incident. It’s part of a disturbing wave of arson and vandalism hitting Tesla facilities across the country, including Las Vegas. Why the hate for Tesla? Many point the finger at CEO Elon Musk’s high-profile role cutting government waste in President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. Seems like some folks aren’t happy with Musk trying to trim the fat in Washington.
Attorney General Pam Bondi isn’t messing around, calling the attacks “nothing short of domestic terrorism.” She issued a stark warning: “Let me be extremely clear to anyone who still wants to firebomb a Tesla property: you will not evade us.”
The Justice Department is throwing the book at those caught, pursuing charges that could land them in prison for up to 20 years. McIntire might have thought he was making a statement, but now he’s learning a hard lesson about federal law enforcement under the Trump administration.
