New Jersey’s top law dogs are in the hot seat.
U.S. Attorney Alina Habba just launched a full-blown federal probe into Garden State Governor Phil Murphy and his Attorney General Matt Platkin, accusing them of illegally blocking federal immigration enforcement.
Habba, appointed by President Trump, isn’t buying the state’s “Immigrant Trust Directive,” a fancy name for rules telling state and local cops they can’t cooperate with ICE agents trying to deport illegal immigrants – even those with court-issued warrants.
JUST IN: US Attorney for the District of NJ Alina Habba has opened an investigation into NJ Gov Phil Murphy for instructing local law enforcement not to cooperate with ICE.

Habba blasted the policy, saying Murphy’s own website coaches law enforcement on how *not* to help federal officers nab immigrants who’ve overstayed their welcome after due process.
“Those dos and don’ts instruct them not to cooperate,” Habba stated bluntly, arguing the directive essentially ties the hands of federal agents, including the FBI and DEA, when dealing with immigration matters.
It’s not just talk; Habba warned that officials caught obstructing federal agents or hiding illegal immigrants could face serious criminal charges like obstruction or concealment.
She insists the investigation isn’t political, calling it a matter of upholding the law and ensuring “American safety” comes before state policies that flout federal authority.
This crackdown puts New Jersey squarely in the spotlight of the ongoing battle between federal immigration authorities and sanctuary states seemingly determined to ignore them.
