Even the mainstream media sometimes slips and tells the truth, just maybe not the way they intend. Take CBS News and their recent profile of everyone’s favorite socialist grandpa, Bernie Sanders.
Self-proclaimed socialist Bernie Sanders is presented on CBS as:
— a "populist firebrand"
— a "voice for dissent"
— a "Vermont independent"
— a "no-nonsense lawmaker"
When they can't identify someone on the far left as "far left," they're telling you where THEY are. pic.twitter.com/FiYkGLTyBN— Tim Graham (@TimJGraham) April 9, 2025
The network apparently described the Vermont senator using fluffy terms like “populist firebrand” and a “voice for dissent.” They even called him a “no-nonsense lawmaker.” No-nonsense? This is the guy who honeymooned in the Soviet Union! But notice what word was missing? Yep, “socialist” or even “far left.”
When a major network goes out of its way to avoid stating the obvious about Sanders’ politics, maybe it tells you more about the network than it does about Bernie. Calling him a mere “independent” or a “firebrand” is like calling a five-alarm fire a cozy campfire. It’s a deliberate downplaying of his radical agenda.
Sanders, fresh off watching his party lose the White House again and even the popular vote in 2024, is still out there demanding massive government takeovers of healthcare and the economy. He’s been singing the same tune for decades.
So when CBS tries to paint him as some kind of folksy maverick instead of the hard-left ideologue he is, it raises eyebrows. Are they trying to normalize his extreme views? Or are they just admitting, perhaps unintentionally, where their own political sympathies lie? Either way, keep an eye on how they spin it – it’s often more revealing than the story itself.
