China just slapped the U.S. with massive new tariffs, hiking taxes on American goods to a whopping 84% in the latest round of this escalating trade brawl. Beijing says it’s payback for President Trump’s own hefty 104% tariff slammed on Chinese exports earlier this month.

The move comes as Trump’s Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, is calling China out directly. Bessent didn’t mince words, labeling China the “biggest offender” in the global trade game and pointing the finger squarely at Beijing for cranking up the heat.
“In terms of escalation, unfortunately, the biggest offender in the global trading system is China,” Bessent stated plainly. “They’re the only country who’s escalated.” He blasted the communist nation for refusing to even sit down and talk trade like grown-ups.
But China isn’t backing down. Their Ministry of Finance fired back, calling the U.S. tariffs “mistakes compounded by another mistake” and vowing they’ll “fight to the end” against American pressure. They’re even warning Trump’s tough stance could tank the economy, sparking chaos and inflation.
Looks like this economic showdown, simmering since Trump’s first term, just got a whole lot hotter. Washington says it’s playing hardball to get a fair deal; Beijing says it’s ready for a long, bruising fight. Stay tuned.
