Taxpayers Foot Bill For Tampons in Baltimore Men’s Rooms

Baltimore City Council is pushing a new bill that would force city buildings to stock free menstrual products in all public restrooms – and yes, that includes the men’s room.

The Dems running Charm City claim the move, introduced Monday, is all about tackling “period poverty” and making sure everyone has “equitable access” to tampons and pads, regardless of their gender identity. Because apparently, that’s a top priority.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this kind of thing. Ann Arbor, Michigan, went all-in back in 2021, mandating free tampons even in private businesses’ bathrooms. Get caught without pads? That’s a $100 fine for the business owner.

More recently, in August 2024, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, forced all its county-owned spots, from parks to courthouses, to provide the freebies.

If Baltimore’s bill passes, it’ll be the first major city in Maryland to put taxpayers on the hook for tampons in men’s bathrooms in city buildings. Supporters are calling it a step toward “menstrual equity,” joining a growing list of places prioritizing free hygiene products for everyone, everywhere.
