Elena Bardin, who taught at the Adair Juvenile Detention Center, didn’t stop there, cops say. She’s also accused of sexually abusing the same minor she tried to turn into a hitman and sending the kid explicit photos.
Bardin was busted and slapped with a laundry list of charges, including solicitation of murder, sexual abuse, and distributing obscene material to a minor. She’s now cooling her heels in jail, unable to cough up the $500,000 cash bond.
This shocking case comes as Kentucky grapples with other educators behaving badly. Last year, former Catholic school teacher Jordan Fautz pleaded guilty to federal child porn charges. Lawmakers in Frankfort have been pushing for tougher rules, like House Bill 275, to beef up background checks and reporting for teachers accused of misconduct.
The allegations against Bardin highlight the disturbing reality that sometimes the people entrusted with guiding kids are the ones leading them down a dark path, making those legislative efforts seem more urgent than ever.
