President Trump isn’t taking no for an answer when it comes to wiping out the Mexican drug cartels pouring poison across our border. He slammed Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum after she shot down his offer to send U.S. troops south of the border to help clean up the mess. Trump, never one to mince words, said Sheinbaum is just plain scared.
“The President of Mexico is a lovely woman, but she is so afraid of the cartels that she can’t even think straight,” Trump declared after their tense phone call on May 4th. He had proposed sending American muscle to tackle the cartel violence and drug trafficking plaguing both nations.

But Sheinbaum wasn’t having it. She publicly rejected the idea, waving the flag of national sovereignty. “Sovereignty is not for sale. Sovereignty is loved and defended,” she stated, insisting Mexico wouldn’t allow foreign boots on its ground, though she claimed to be open to “cooperation.”
This showdown comes after the Trump administration labeled several major cartels as foreign terrorist groups and beefed up border surveillance. Trump argues direct action is needed to stop the deadly flood of fentanyl killing Americans. Sheinbaum, meanwhile, wants the U.S. to stop weapons flowing *into* Mexico. This standoff could fray relations, even as both countries grapple with the shared crisis fueled by ruthless criminal empires.
