NFL Kicker Announces AZ-5 Run; Eyes 2026 House Race

He kicked field goals, now he’s kicking off a run for Congress! Former NFL star and CBS broadcaster Jay Feely just announced he’s aiming for the U.S. House seat in Arizona’s fifth district for the 2026 election.

The 48-year-old gridiron vet told ESPN he felt a call to serve, driven by his faith and a sense of duty, not political ambition.

Feely says the shocking 2025 assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump really pushed him to jump into the political arena. Trump himself, along with Rep. Jim Jordan, had actually urged Feely to run back in 2022, but family came first then.

Now, the University of Michigan grad is ready to tackle Washington, focusing his campaign playbook on fixing the economy and locking down the border – key issues for Arizonans. He’s aiming for the seat being vacated by Rep. Andy Biggs, who’s making a run for governor. Feely’s already collecting signatures to get on the ballot.
