Looming US Exit Presses Kyiv, Moscow for Concrete Peace Plan

Enough is enough. Secretary of State Marco Rubio laid down the law this week, telling Moscow and Kyiv to get serious about peace talks or Uncle Sam is packing his bags and heading home. After years of mediating the endless conflict in Ukraine, the Trump administration is signaling its patience has run out.

Speaking for the State Department, Tammy Bruce made it clear: no more vague promises. “Concrete proposals” are needed, and pronto, or the U.S. role as mediator could end, depending on President Trump’s final say. Trump himself has shown frustration with the frozen conflict, despite promising a quick end to the war during his campaign.

At the UN, U.S. diplomat John Kelley didn’t mince words, pointing the finger at Russia for the ongoing bloodshed but stressing that both sides need to step up to make peace happen. It’s time for Ukraine and Russia to put workable plans on the table, not just blame each other while the fighting drags on.

Russia offered a short, three-day ceasefire for its WWII victory celebration, but Ukraine scoffed, calling it flimsy and demanding a full month’s pause. Meanwhile, European leaders are wringing their hands, praising U.S. efforts but reportedly scrambling for a “plan B” if America steps back, worried their sanctions against Russia might collapse without U.S. leadership.

Kyiv insists it won’t sign off on any deal that lets Russia keep stolen land like Crimea. But with the U.S. pushing for real results, not endless negotiations, the pressure is mounting on both sides to finally find a way out of this mess or risk losing Washington’s critical involvement.
