GOP Moves to Block China’s Student Spy Pipeline

Communist China wants its citizens spying on America, and GOP lawmakers are saying “No more!” A new bill aims to slam the door shut on Chinese nationals using student visas to gain access to the U.S., citing Beijing’s own sinister intelligence laws.

Senator Ashley Moody (R-FL) and Representative Riley Moore (R-WV) aren’t buying the idea that every student is just here to hit the books. They’ve introduced legislation (SB1086) to block student visas for anyone from mainland China, pointing directly at Beijing’s 2017 National Intelligence Law. That charming piece of legislation legally requires *all* Chinese citizens and companies to assist the Communist Party’s spy agencies – whether they’re at home or abroad.

Think about it: China legally mandates its people to snoop for the state. Moody calls the current flow of students a potential “spigot” for espionage, and recent cases seem to back her up. Remember Ji Chaoqun? He came here on a student visa and ended up jailed last year for spying for Beijing. Then there were those Chinese students caught snapping photos near a Michigan military base. Coincidence? These lawmakers think not.

Of course, the usual suspects in academia are wringing their hands, worried that shutting off the flow of Chinese students will hurt their precious research projects and university prestige. Some Chinese students at pricey schools like Yale are complaining it disrupts their career plans under the Trump administration, conveniently ignoring the security risks their home country poses.

This visa ban proposal comes as the U.S. government, under President Trump, ramps up efforts to counter Chinese threats, including new measures in the defense budget targeting risky Chinese tech and apps. While the bill’s fate is uncertain, it sends a clear message: America is waking up to the danger posed by the Chinese Communist Party’s exploitation of our open society.

I think we should shut all Chinese visas down now. No one from China should be allowed in America until they prove that they are trustworthy, and I don’t think that will ever happen.

The ChiComs have been playing us like a fiddle ever since Nixon opened diplomatic relations with them back in 1972. Early on, their ‘students’ that came to the U.S. for ‘educational purposes’ were all spies. Why do you think they targeted universities, tech companies, research facilities, etc. for their ‘students’? Their sole purpose was to learn advanced Western technology, steal it and get it back to China to advance their technology. No basket weaving courses for them! We are over 50 years too late, but better than never.
