Alice Cooper shares miraculous journey from alcohol addiction to faith in God’s healing

Alice Cooper, a name synonymous with rock ‘n’ roll, has lived a life marked by both incredible highs and staggering lows. The legendary artist, known for his theatrical performances, revealed a deeply personal story about how he overcame alcohol addiction through what he describes as a miraculous intervention from God. Decades ago, during the pinnacle of his fame, Cooper found himself teetering on the edge of a breakdown, struggling with the very same excesses that claimed the lives of fellow rock icons like Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix.

During an interview, Cooper candidly reflected on those turbulent times, stating, “Everything that could go wrong was shutting down inside of me.” It was a dark period in his life, where parties and substance abuse took a firm grip, leading him to a critical juncture that would either see him perpetuate the cycle of addiction or seek a higher power. He recounted the moment his wife, Sheryl, looked at him after a particularly harrowing episode and pronounced, “Party’s over.” This was the wake-up call he desperately needed.

With the support of Sheryl and his manager, Shep Gordon, Cooper faced an intervention that led him to Cornell Medical Center, a sanitarium nestled in New York. Reflecting on this pivotal experience, he shared, “This was pretty much at the height of my career, but in that hospital, none of the other patients had any idea who Alice Cooper was.” The stark reality of his surroundings set the stage for what he calls a divine encounter.

Within days of his stay, Cooper felt an astonishing change. He believed that God took away his cravings for alcohol, a claim that even astonished his doctors who had previously warned him about the challenges he would face in overcoming addiction. “After two days, I felt great. I came out of there, never once had a fallback,” he stated confidently, asserting that he hadn’t touched alcohol or drugs since.

A defining moment in Cooper’s journey occurred when he found himself in a dark room, grappling with the effects of addiction. Looking in the mirror, he saw blood streaming from his eyes, a vivid vision that prompted him to call out for help. “I don’t know if it was a hallucination or if it was really happening, but all I knew was I was going to die,” he recalled. This moment marked the beginning of his spiritual awakening.

Now, Cooper uses his platform to reach out to younger audiences, conveying a message about the realities of evil in the world. He warns that “Satan is not a myth,” and stresses the importance of awareness. Cooper passionately believes in sharing the teachings of Jesus, pointing out a prevailing ignorance among youth regarding the true nature of Christ. “Most young people think Jesus Christ is a swear word…they have no idea who Jesus Christ is,” he lamented, emphasizing that this misunderstanding is a barrier in their spiritual explorations.
