Missionary Beau Shroyer’s wife charged in connection with his murder in Angola

In a shocking turn of events, the story of Beau and Jackie Shroyer, a couple devoted to missionary work, has taken a dark twist. Not long after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, this couple had plans to embark on a missionary journey to Angola with their five children, driven by their shared commitment to spreading their faith. However, the tragedy struck when Beau was found fatally stabbed in Angola on October 25, adding layers of complexity to an already tragic narrative.

Angolan officials have charged Jackie Shroyer, aged 44, with orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot that allegedly led to her husband’s death. During a press briefing, Manuel Halaiwa, representing the country’s Criminal Investigation Service, detailed the chilling allegations, stating that Jackie was the mastermind behind the operation that involved several accomplices, including a 24-year-old security guard with whom she reportedly had a romantic relationship.

On that fateful day, Beau was discovered dead in a thicket near Humpata, with investigators suggesting that Jackie initially approached her alleged lover, Bernardino Elias, to carry out the murder. She purportedly offered $50,000 for the crime, later providing $400 to cover the logistics. Investigators disclosed that the plan was disguised to appear as a robbery, with payments of up to $9,000 allegedly exchanged amid the chaos.

The Shroyers had built a heartfelt connection with the Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, prior to relocating to Lubango, Angola, under the auspices of SIM USA. Their departure was marked by a commitment to serving others, which both reflected their personal journeys to faith. In previous recordings, Jackie spoke of their willingness to embrace challenges in pursuit of their mission, expressing, “We were like, we’ll do it God, we don’t care what it costs.”

Reflecting on their individual backgrounds, Beau revealed a childhood marked by instability and a longing for connection. He shared how he grew up feeling isolated and how that changed after embracing faith. “There was just never a place where I belonged,” he recounted. Jackie, on the other hand, had her struggles with faith, veering off the path in her teenage years despite her Christian upbringing, ultimately leading her to seek love and acceptance in all the wrong places.

Their lives took a transformative turn when they reconnected with their faith during parenthood. By embracing church life together, they began strengthening their bond, which would eventually compel them to commit to missionary work. However, the shocking events following Beau’s untimely death have cast a shadow over their legacy.

As the investigation unfolds, SIM USA has remained tight-lipped about the incident, citing the ongoing inquiry as the reason for their reluctance to discuss the specifics of the case. Mark Bosscher of SIM stated that “in light of an ongoing investigation, SIM USA has no further comment beyond the statement that we have previously provided.”

In the aftermath of this tragedy, the community, once inspired by the Shroyers’ mission work, now grapples with the disheartening narrative surrounding their lives and the depths of betrayal involved. The shocking nature of this case is leaving many questions unanswered…
