New details emerge on alleged Trump shooter who donated to Democrats and posted threats

On a sunny Sunday afternoon, as former President Donald Trump enjoyed a round of golf, the calm was shattered by an alarming attempt on his life. Authorities have now identified the man behind this troubling incident as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, a former roofing contractor originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, who had relocated to Hawaii.

Recent reports reveal that Routh had financial connections to Democratic candidates, having made donations to their campaigns since 2019, a stark shift given his previous support for Trump during the 2016 election. His evolving political stance has raised eyebrows, especially as he vocally criticized Trump on social media, claiming that the former president’s campaign should be labeled with phrases like “…make Americans slaves again…” He even declared, “DEMOCRACY is on the ballot and we cannot lose.”

Captured on video last year expressing his views on the war in Ukraine, Routh described the conflict as “black and white,” indicating his willingness to fight for what he perceived as good over evil. Despite no military background, he expressed a desire to recruit soldiers for Ukraine and was quoted in 2023 about his intentions to travel there.

On the day of the incident, Routh came prepared, allegedly equipped with an AK-47, body armor, multiple backpacks, and a GoPro camera. Positioned cleverly behind a fence at Trump International Golf Club, he was aiming towards where Trump was playing, about 300 to 500 yards away. A vigilant Secret Service agent noticed the rifle barrel peeking out and promptly intervened, prompting Routh to flee.

Following a tense manhunt, authorities apprehended Routh in a neighboring county after he attempted to escape in his vehicle. In a statement, Trump responded to the assassination attempt with renewed determination, claiming, “My resolve is only stronger after another attempt on my life! I will never slow down. I will never give up.”

Meanwhile, President Biden condemned the violence in a statement, emphasizing that “there is no place for political violence or for any violence ever in our country,” and assured that the Secret Service would receive the necessary resources to safeguard former President Trump.
