Pastor Greg Locke, known for his outspoken views and leadership at Global Vision Bible Church in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, has reported that his family is feeling the need to stay away from their home after a terrifying drive-by shooting incident. Just over a week ago, Locke’s residence was targeted, resulting in approximately 60 bullets being fired within a strikingly rapid timeframe of less than three seconds, hitting both his house and truck.
During a recent sermon, Locke expressed his disbelief about the situation, describing it as a “surreal” experience. “We have not been allowed to be back at our house since then, and other than packing stuff up, we’re not going back anyhow,” he mentioned to his congregation, explaining that authorities are concerned about possible retaliation following the shooting.
The incident took place on the evening of September 4, and Capt. Scott Moore from the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office shared that police arrived at the scene to find 30 to 40 shell casings scattered around the area. Miraculously, there were no injuries reported, and currently, no suspects have been apprehended.
Community Reaction and Personal Account
Reflecting on the frightening evening, Locke recounted how he and his wife were returning home from a family trip when they noticed something was off. Initially mistaking the sounds of gunfire for broken glass, they were horrified to discover the extent of damage inflicted on their home. Locke recalled, “All of a sudden I began to realize it (bullets) went through the wall and the headboard and Destiny’s room.” The damage was extensive, with projectiles impacting various areas, including the garage and his vehicle.
In response to the threat, Locke armed himself with an AR-15 and a handgun, ready to defend his property. While his wife called for help, Locke took to inspecting the surroundings, feeling a sense of urgency and chaos as he navigated the scene. “I’m running around the house like a madman… not knowing what’s going on,” he described the moment when he armed himself for protection, emphasizing the need for self-defense. He highlighted a belief that one can’t always rely on authorities to provide timely assistance.
When police arrived, the scene was tense. Locke recounted the officers’ unexpected commands to put his hands up, leaving him in disbelief about the nature of their response. He complied diligently, humorously recalling the moment he needed to inform the officers about his concealed weapon.
Investigation and Ongoing Concerns
Investigation of the event has revealed security footage capturing two vehicles involved in the shooting. Locke was adamant in defending himself against social media speculation regarding the incident, stating, “the camera will show you that it wasn’t me standing at the end of my driveway putting my family in jeopardy.” He further explained that his wife arrived just a minute after the shooter had fled, reiterating the randomness of the act against their home.
Locke underscored the severity of the incident, noting, “The detective said he’d never seen that many spent shell casings in a drive-by shooting situation like this.” With their home now a site of trauma, Locke’s family faces an uncertain future, unsure when or if they will return to the place that has become a reminder of fear and vulnerability. The community watches closely as the investigation unfolds, hoping for answers and for justice in this distressing matter.
